New CA Wily SOA Manager Delivers End-to-End Monitoring for Web Services

Monday 19 March 2007

Allows customers to identify and eliminate performance issues in SOA-enabled J2EE and .NET environments.

CA today announced the Wily SOA Manager, an extension to Wily Introscope, the
industry- leading enterprise application management solution. The new product enables customers to manage the end-to-end performance of transactions that cross Services Oriented Architectures (SOA) by automatically identifying dependencies among Web Services, proactively monitoring service-based business processes 24 x 7, and alerting IT staff to problems so they can be eliminated before impacting business performance.

"

"As SOA adoption grows, IT organizations are realizing that existing management tools may not be sufficient for managing the complexity SOAs can create," said Julie Craig, senior analyst at Enterprise Management Associates. "With its ability to automatically discover and monitor individual transaction across multiple components, Wily SOA Manager is a prime example of a solution enterprise buyers can use to ensure reliable
Web Service performance."

"

In addition to monitoring Web Services and their components, CA's Wily SOA Manager provides detailed insight into Web applications and the back-end systems to which they connect. This gives IT staff the comprehensive information they require to find and resolve performance problems within SOA environments including views of individual transactions with accompanying Web Service messages, the number and nature of Web Service faults, and the health of underlying components.

"

"SOAs allow IT to respond faster to the demands of businesses -- but the Web Services that an SOA enables are often reliant on the performance of other, underlying components," said Mike Malloy, vice president and head of products at CA Wily. "Because Web Services operate in the context of existing, heterogeneous applications, companies require management capabilities at every level of their application infrastructure. Wily SOA Manager meets this challenge by providing IT teams with a single lens that brings the performance of their entire enterprise into focus."

"

The Wily SOA Manager enables IT teams to effectively measure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintain audit trails to isolate the cause of violations. Using the pre-configured dashboards, operations and application support personnel can view service response times, call volumes, and errors in real time, to ensure overall system health. Features of the new product include:

  • Out-of-the-box SOA and Web Services monitoring - Automatic discovery and monitoring of services and service business units with pre-configured dashboards

  • Error Detection and Impact Analysis - Monitor the performance and verify the content of cross-machine, heterogeneous transactions and multi-step business processes

  • Synthetic transaction generation - Enables monitoring of business process performance and availability and across complex applications via Service chains

  • Service Groups - Automatic discovery of service dependencies and data collection from UDDI repositories. Ability to group services together for centralized configuration of alerting and reporting policies

  • Customizable reporting - Allows reporting and analysis for Sarbanes-Oxley and ITIL compliance -- as well as storage of all live performance data for trend analysis, capacity planning and other essential management tasks
The Wily SOA Manager requires Wily Introscope and supports leading
technology platforms including Apache Axis, BEA WebLogic Server, IBM
WebSphere Application Server, NetWeaver and the Microsoft .NET Framework.

The Wily SOA Manager will be available in early April. Additional information is available at: http://www.wilytech.com .
