Rogue Wave Software Unveils SOA Framework to Manage Application Performance and Scalability

Wednesday 07 December 2005

Rogue Wave Hydra is a standards-based distributed SOA framework designed to achieve performance improvement in enterprise applications.

Rogue Wave Software, a division of Quovadx, today announced a new SOA framework, Rogue Wave Hydra, designed to facilitate the distribution of business processes within an application. Hydra will help improve performance and throughput for critical software applications, the vendor said.

"

“Customers have told us that a convergence of circumstances and processing limitations is preventing them from taking advantage of growth and new business opportunities. Achieving the application performance and scalability that their businesses require demands a new paradigm in software development,” said Cory Isaacson, president of Rogue Wave.

"

A typical software application is limited by the slowest component in any given business process. Hydra enables parallel processing, or processing multiple tasks at the same time, to meet growing scalability demands that may be hindered by slower components. Parallel processing has been successfully utilized for computation-intensive applications such as financial analytics and resolving complex biotech or engineering problems. Hydra brings this capability to generalized business applications.

Hydra’s parallel processing is based on a core technology and associated methodology called “software pipelines”. This point-to-point architecture avoids bottlenecks, allowing businesses to improve the overall throughput and performance.

HOW DOES HYDRA WORK?

1 - Leveraging the power of parallel processing, professional developers can construct individual software components (services) using new or existing applications and tie them together in business processes.

2 - Developers can then break down application functionality into separate components or business-level services, enabling SOA’s agility.

3 - These services are then incorporated into business processes and deployed to a Hydra agent in a distributed, peer-to-peer model.

Rogue Wave Hydra was created in collaboration with Rogue Wave design partners and is currently in beta implementation stages with select proof-of-concept (POC) customers in the financial services, telecommunications, call center, health insurance and software industries.

Hydra will be generally available in March 2006. To learn more about Hydra, visit www.roguewave.com/products/hydra .
